FW new releases - Tau'nar Fusion Eradictor
Designed as a radical solution to the limitations of current Tau fusion weapons technology, the Fusion Eradicator combines a battery of multiple synchronised firing chambers. The weapon creates a blast of energy so potent that solid matter caught in its path is torn apart at a molecular level by brute thermal force, and no physical material yet known to the Tau can survive its destructive power.
The cost in materials and expertise to create a single Fusion Eradicator is immense, and the natural endurance of each weapon is limited often to a single battle. Each Fusion Eradicator is then discarded and must be replaced.
The Fusion Eradicator is an arm-mounted weapon for the KX139 Ta’unar Supremacy Armour. This multi-part resin kit includes the mounting arm and shoulder plate and can be built for either the left or right side of the Supremacy Armour.
Black Library: The Beast Arises - Q&A with Dan Abnett
via Black Library
Earlier today, we announced 'The Beast Arises', a brand new Black Library event series. It launches soon, and the first book in the series is written by bestselling author and Black Library legend Dan Abnett. We sat down with Dan to find out more...
BL: We’re sure thousands of Black Library fans out there will be delighted to see you at the helm of the first book in a brand new series. What can you tell us about ‘The Beast Arises’?
DA: It’s a very cool concept – a massive, epic story that will end up being much bigger than your average novel, but serialised over 12 months and written as a team, as per the Horus Heresy novels, passing the baton from one writer to the next, working off a common plan. It’s really huge and really epic, and showcases a massive event in the post-Heresy Imperium. We’re talking the Imperial Fists as Terra’s last line of defence… and we’re talking orks.
BL: The series starts with your novel ‘I Am Slaughter’. What (or who) does the title of the book refer to?
DA: Well, that would be spoiling things, but the reference will be revealed as twofold – it’s about one of the main characters, and also about the sheer overwhelming fury of the threat. This is a savage story.
BL: How have you approached the setting differently from a Horus Heresy or Warhammer 40,000 story?
DA: Writing Warhammer 40,000 is great – we’re always in that ‘one minute to midnight’ phase of cosmic doom and stagnation, the dark background of all 41st millennium stories. The cool, contrasting feature about the Horus Heresy is that we’re writing about a specific period of Imperial history, so there is a real sense of place and time, of progression, or major events changing the phase of the Imperium.
‘The Beast Arises’ isn’t a Heresy story; it’s much more firmly set in the era and age we think of as Warhammer 40,000, but it’s not quite that either. This is early in post-Heresy history, in the early stages of the Imperium, so the trappings are Warhammer 40,000, but the sense of a major historical event is very Heresy.
This isn’t just a major, epic story – it’s a massive piece of lore, an event that reshaped the Imperium in shocking ways.
BL: What was it like starting a series, knowing other authors would continue the tale? Was there much collaboration, or did you stick to the boundaries of your own novel?
DA: There was a lot of collaboration. I think that’s why we did it, really. The collaborative process that developed throughout the Horus Heresy was not only fun but very productive – getting lots of creative minds looking at a big event and working out ways to tell it and structure it. We employed the same techniques with this, brainstorming the elements (and surprises!) of the story around the table. Sharing it out was simply a matter of dividing the workload. This is how a big event should work.
BL: How did you find the Imperial Fists as protagonists? They seem potentially quite different from the very human characters in a lot of your Warhammer 40,000 fiction.
DA: They’re great. I’ve come to love them through the Heresy, and this is a great moment to showcase them after the civil war. I’m still afraid of Space Marines, but I’m not afraid of writing them.
BL: So what can we expect from the rest of the series?
DA: Massive action. Carnage. Tremendous, high level political intrigue amongst the High Lords of Terra. And some truly staggering twists.
BL: In one sentence, why should a Black Library fan be excited about this series?
DA: Orks, Imperial Fists, Terra in peril, blockbuster action, and universe-changing revelations… what more could you want?
BL: Thanks Dan. That's certainly got us excited.
