Quick review of what this is about !

General stuff

The Citadel Paint App, is an application made by Games Workshop to help hobbyist painting and managing their paints stock.
-100% Free.
-Localized in multiple language : French, German, English, Chinese, Spanish, Italian, Japanese.
-Duncan videos are still in English only(but with integrated subtitle).

Homepage

The homepage is 5 links :
-Getting started,
-Paint by color,
-Paint by model,
-Painting bases,
-Paint inventory/wishlist.

Getting started

Getting started page is very busy.

First there is a video on the GW paint system.

Then there is 9 Duncan videos explaining the different painting techniques. (some categories have no vid)

Ex: One video about shading (i think it the same one as the youtube page)

At the bottom when you click on the Brush you get a small pop up explaining how the brush is made and what is it for.
I learned there that all the GW layer brush are made in "poil de martre" (sable) is that true ? I knew it for the Artificier but not for the standard one.

Paint by color

It's the main part of the App, for each color of the GW range you can :

Choose a color

Choose a tone.

Choose between 2 methods : Layering or Dry brushing

Layering version

Drybrushing version

You can also access technique video from there.

Paint by Model

Right now there is 63 models represented.

When you choose one.

You get a close up with links accessing the colors section.

Bases

Same as the colors but for the bases.

With quick access to the corresponding technique as well.

Paint Collection

The last page is very interesting, it's my favorite of the app !!
You get to mark which paint pot you have which one you want.
No more of "you go to the shop and buy the wrong color (again !) or forget what you needed".

This is the Homepage of this section.

Imagine ! you are planning to paint blood angels like every sane person ^^
From this page you can wishlist everything by clicking top right corner or select what do you have or want from each color line.
Notice that the paint icons are present on every color pages to add them easily.

ps: If i selected the Dry brush version the paints offered would be different.

Then in the Owned section :

And in the wish list section:

Color Picker

A color Picker is included in the app too ! If you allow the app to access your camera you can take a picture of a model (or a color on the floor or something). Click it and the App offer you multiple colors choices.

Exemple :

In this case i clicked on the arm of the Rat Ogre and a dark brown flesh tone was proposed. if you click on the bottom bar you get sent to another page with 3 or 4 painting options for the corresponding color.

Here another exemple when i captured my keyboard (black) and went to " Trouver les correspondances"

Quite awesome ?

ps: Color offered where a bit darker than the actual model, result may differ with different smartphone/light (Maybe it work even better on the Iphone X ^^) I was using my Ipad and the camera is a bit darker.

Time to wrap up, this review !

What is missing
-Multi language video.
-Stock level for paints. ie : Being able to add détails like Having 2 Nuln oil, or a nearly depleted pot of Mephiston red.
-Having other painted exemple than a space marines backpack, especially on the flesh colors it doesn't make sense right now :D
-Option for changing language (maybe it's in but i didn't found it)

Conclusion

For a Version 1.0 the App is already awesome, it's free and there a huge amount of painting information !!

Well Played Games Worskhop ! Future is Bright !

/cheers.
