Warhammer 40000 Psychic Awakening : New Rules for Chaos Knights
Hello everyone !!
Today Chaos Knight rules from PA got teased.
This time we look at these new rules with the early knowledge we have on the 9th. !! if you missed the Q/A on the 9th check the transcript here : https://war-of-sigmar.herokuapp.com/bloggings/4577
One new thing added by the PA book is the "House" choice. There are 5 houses choices, 3 for the Iconoclasts and 2 for the infernals.
Iconoclast household has House Lucaris, House Herpetrax or House Khymere.
Infernals household has House Vertrix or House Khomentis.
Each house has its own Household Bond, Warlord Trait, Artefact of Tyranny and Stratagem.
Bond is the new passive that each house get.
2 extra wounds is a nice as it applies to all your knights...
You'll also get an extra Warlord trait choice :
Yea it's ok but nothing special or new.
Very interesting Stratagem...if we consider that this is created with 9th in mind, maybe we can expect that more and more army get damage bomb stratagem? Is spending CP on damage stratagem the future ?
Another new stratagem revealed today is this one :
Cool, we know already know that for CP in 9th we can put unit(s) in reserve and they enter the game in a later turn. It was hinted in the Q&A that you can flank as the turns go. This stratagem does it, for 2 cp and on a limited pool of unit and once. But you can set it up anywhere within 6 of an edge. I wonder what are the limits on the Core reserve stratagem!
As for nearly all the codex, PA let you build your own house by choosing 2 powers from a list.
Slayers of Kings is very good but don't forget that Bonus max at +1 in the 9th !
That's all for today...
Warhammer 40000 WHC teaser : New Rules for Admech
Hello everyone !!
The Adeptus Mechanicus is one of my favourite recent armies. The GothicVerne style they choose on the last release and the next to come are great. A few years back the first models previewed were not very appealing to me. This is the past models are awesome, Mech is getting 3 new units and 1 new character with Psychic Awakening. Each of the new units is a multi kit boasting 2 or 3 variant.
If we compare the AdMech range to the other armies, apart from Sisters, the knights and the future Necron and primaries they have the coolest models.
So next PA is pre-orders on Saturday and as usual, we got a glimpse of what their rules are :
As other PA book, you get to min-max your chapter rules with a list of primary or secondary.
Each of the old Forge World gets a new rule named canticle.
If the 2 previous options were classical, the new Warlord trait designed especially for the Admech Lord is a new sort of power!
If your Warlord joins one of the four Holy Orders, they will be able to select the associated Warlord Trait. Each Holy Order gives you a choice of three abilities to select at the start of one of your turns. Throw in your lot in with the Magi to get these abilities.
Off course Moar Stratagems are on the way ^^ If you consider that you get MORE CP at the start with the 9th and the book is written with the 9th in mind, don't expect to see a slowdown on the Stratagems spam!
Hmm neat, completely Meta Dependant but the range is so short it's going to be hard to use.
Steampunk cowboy :D
Each variant gets some very cool rules.
Eye of Serberys is very good!
Such a beauty
The Archaeopter comes in three flavours – Transvector (a transport aircraft), Fusilave (a bomber) and Stratoraptor (a gunship). Regardless of their role, there are features that they all share. They each have a command uplink, making it easy to increase the Leadership of nearby troops.
Damn, that's hot! Now I hope the 9th Flyer rules are good & fun!
Lots of new rules revealed. A lot more to be revealed, I am eager to see what's in store for the AdMech.
It's such a good army (Yea I am starting one right now :D)
Psychic Awakening fluff : Primaris Traitors ? Or Primaris made from traitors legions ?
Hello everyone !!
A very intriguing piece of fluff was released recently on the GW community website.
The novel describes 2 Brazen Drakes Greyshields companies reinforcing their new chapter. Upon arrival in orbit, they found the space marines homeworld ravaged and the chapter declared Traitoris. The narration starts with a Custodes Shield Captain asking to arrest them. Fight happen and half the fleet revolt...
This is a huge fluff bomb, but honestly, the story doesn't make any sense...The Greyshields are reinforcement to an SM chapter so they were never with the chapter to begin with, right? the SM captain is a Primaris or a regular that served as a liaison to get the new Primaries ? Why the Custode wants to arrest these "Indomitus veterans Primaries that have never met with the Brazen Drakes chapter..??
‘The heretical gene-seed within your bodies is its own condemnation,’ Tyvar replied. ‘I am Custodes. I speak with the Emperor’s voice. Were you loyal, you would set down your weapons and accept your guilt. But you side with your brothers before your Emperor, as the Adeptus Astartes always have.’
What does he mean here? are they Primaries made from Traitorous Legion ? New primaries made from Brazen Drakes geneseed ? Or does he consider all Astarte Geneseed Heretical ?
The Unnumbered Sons was a classification of Primaris Space Marine that was created by Lord Commander Guilliman during the formation of the Indomitus Crusade. They were officially known as the Unnumbered Sons of the Primarchs, but some within their ranks referred to themselves as Greyshields.
Of the many thousands of Primaris Space Marines created by Archmagos Dominus Cawl, half were formed into new Chapters, from the so-called Ultima Founding, while the rest were gathered into nine Legion sized armies. These armies were descended from the nine loyalist gene-lines, who wore the livery of their founding Primarchs and were then further organized into Chapter-sized formations.
These armies were then made to fight in mixed gene-line squads, by Lord Commander Guilliman[1a], who hoped the different gene-lines would learn from each other and not repeat the misunderstandings that have occurred between Chapters in the past[1c]. Despite fighting in mixed units, the Unnumbered Sons were united by their prominent badges that were crossed with pale grey chevrons.[1a]
The Unnumbered Sons were a major force within the Indomitus Crusade, but as the Crusade progressed their strength dwindled; both from battle losses, as well as being separated from their groups on the orders of Lord Commander Guilliman.
Those Primaris Space Marines that were separated from the Unnumbered Sons, were usually assigned by companies, squadrons and even smaller numbers, to understrength Chapters encountered by the Indomitus Crusade. However, sometimes Guilliman created whole new Chapters where they were needed, such as when important worlds needed to be defended from the Imperium's enemies.
Sons of Guilliman could become Aurora Marines, Doom Eagles, etc., Sons of Dorn could become Black Templars, Imperial Fists, etc. and so on. However, by the time of the Battle of Raukos, only twenty thousand of the Unnumbered Sons remained within the Crusade[1a].
This proved to be the last battle the Unnumbered Sons would fight in though, as Lord Commander Guilliman officially ended the Indomitus Crusade and ordered the disbandment of the group[1b]. Some of the Unnumbered Sons were then formed into new Chapters[1b], such as the Knights Cerulean, Praetors of Ultramar[1e] and the Wolfspear[1c]; while most would take the lessons they had learned from each other, to established Chapters descended from their Primarchs.[1b].
I am not sure what to think of it... But i like to hear what you peoples think of this one ?
War of the Spider : Fabius Bile Intro video
Hello everyone !!
In the wake of the Cadia siege Fabius Bile set up shop ^^. Nice intro video and the story look interesting this time !
Psychic Awakening : Engine War (7th)
Hello everyone !!!
Engine War is the seventh chapter of the Psychic Awakening saga, and it brings a whole host of new rules and models for the Adeptus Mechanicus. Today we’re taking a closer look at the book, including the reinforcements that will soon be executing the will of the Omnissiah across the battlefields of the 41st Millennium.
The Pteraxii are cyborg warriors equipped with flight packs. They come in two different units, the Sterylizors, who are honed for aggression…
…and the Skystalkers, who seek out the best vantage points from which to pick off targets with their flechette carbines.
The new kit builds three different unit options – The Transvector is an aerial transport craft, capable of delivering your infantry in speed, style and safety.
If you prefer bombers, choose the Fusilave and drop payloads of ground-penetrating, tectomagnic bombs that cause seismic shock waves.
Finally, the Stratoraptor is the ground-attack variant, soaring in to strafe targets with its heavy phosphor blasters.
The kit is incredibly customisable, with optional wargear and the ability to be built in flying or landed mode, with the landing skids and legs modelled in different positions.
Only the finest Skitarii are promoted into the corps of Serberys cavalry. Once there, some of them join the Raiders, long-range scouts who excel in outflanking enemy units.
Others join the Sulphurhounds, shock line-breakers who smash through defensive positions, leaving no survivors.
Very cool steampunk vibe with these new models. I am more and more attracted to the different style this army is having. Honestly, the models look very cool and very jules verne-sque.
Still not a big fan of the GW metal paints ^^
Warhammer 40000 : Saga of the Beast review (Fluff and Space wolves)
Hello everyone !! The saga of the Beast arrived today. I would usually whine about UPS delay but amidst the Covid19 outbreak I even feel bad for the UPS peoples.
Still, Saga of the beast is the sixth instalment of the Psychic Awakening Series, Aka 40k the Live Update before 9th hit the store ^^. This time the person of interests are Orcs, led by Ghaz with his awesome new model and Space Wolves led by Ragnar Blackmane, the Primaris Edition !
Let's jump right into it :
As usual in the Psychic awakening series, there is no fluff progression. its more a picture of a battlefront between sw and orcs. In Saga of the Beast this is, even more apparent as the book only narrate battles after battles always with Spaces Wolves and orcs. Each time it's a different setting and cause so it's kind of a nice read but not change of the grand scale of things ^^
I like the one where a Spaces Wolves armoured division rushes the center of a speed waaagh to fight a looted Baneblade with a belt of orcs Psycker chained to it. When the SW reached it, the whole Whaaag teleported in the unknown ^^
Another one it's an army of Orcs mercenary that betray their client an imperial world and take the planet for themselves...(so Governor consider Orcs mercs as an option
In the end, these have no meaning on the grand scheme of narrative but it was an entertaining read!
Used to be my favourite part, not anymore ^^But one text block is an interesting :
Maybe it means new shinning spears kit ? or an exarch ? or maybe even Drastanta? I don't know maybe it's nothing will see Friday if they reveal something.
Another block worth a mention :
Death guards were bound to arrive at some point don't you think ? ?
Ragnar became a Primaris after a fight with Ghazghkull Thraka on Krongar ! usual story, near-death experience, transformation.
Ragnar stats were already shown and he's at 120 points. He's quite nice if you need to mow down Primaris Infantry ^^
-Spaces wolves gain all the doctrines (with the nerf of course) and the other specials rules common to Spaces Marines.
- 2 new rules :
Wow these 2 abilities combined help a lot :
16% more hit during assault Doctrine and 16% more hit (on unit hitting on 3+) during a charge...that'a 33% hit increase on regular troops ! Savage !!
-All primaries unit integrated to the SPace wolves.
-Multiple Specific characters were Primarised, like wolf priest, battle leaders, wolf lord in phobos armor... apart from the Wolf Priest all these transformations are in name only, as they are exactly the same as the standard version from other SM books.Only the name of the pieces of equipment and rules were changed and that is a bit sad...
-Primaris wolf Priest is a Primaris Chaplain but with the Healing Balm Rules as per other Wolf Priest.
-Obscuration Discipline added (no surprise)
-Litanie of Battle added as well for SW chaplain equivalent
Regular traits for a warlord in Phobos
Three pages of Stratagems, i know that' s a lot but they incorporated all the major ones from SM dex and Chapter dex. Also you get a few SW specific like :
Touch of the wild
Extra hit on a 4+ !! damn that's hot stuff for Smash Captain strategies.
Knowledge of the foe
Yea ! i ate your characters ...So what?
Death grip bite
Double the damage of the wolves so it's good for one CP and combine super well with Space wolves added abilities.
Potentially as strong as an Orc Warchanter buff from AOS, but the targets are limited. Still, rules state that Wolf Priest know this litany besides their normal selection, so you can always use it when needed for a 100% increase in damage on basic CC attacks. A simple Intercessors Spaces Wolf unit can shred a lot of targets with this litany :
27 Attacks hitting on 2+ generating extra hit on 6+ should result in 27 hits, 9 wounds (on a 5+) with ap -1 and damage 2 that's an average of 9.5 wounds (based on a 3+ armoured vehicle) and if you compute the 4 Hammers attacks (3+ 3+ -3 damage 4) with a 52% of an extra hit that's a lot of pain.
Nothing incredible they also get access to generic relics from other SM books.
That wraps for the first part of the review! The book is decent, vital if you play SW or Orcs. I grow bored of the Psychic Awakening line of books... all this milking for a few changes or addition are BOooooring !
Warhammer 40000 Psychic Awakening : The Greater Good, Genestealer Cults Review
Following the article on the Tau (here ). We'll review today the Genestealer Cult rules section included in the Greater Good book of the Psychic Awakening series.
Only 10 pages of the Greater Good or so are allotted to the Genestealer Cults. They get Custom Cults making, new stratagems, and a psychic table for each named broods from the codex. Also included, the ambush and Brood brother rules, amended by the different ERRATA.
Instead of the 6 cults included in the codex, you have the option to build your own Cult! The Cults from the codex are all fine choice as you can see (included the one from the codex for comparison purpose.) but if you want some variety or want to try some special tactics list you can toy with the new options presented in this book. Before that check the old one so you know the competition ^^
Now the if you want to build your own cult, choose 2 powers from a list. 11 options to choose from. some goods, some bad. Build the Cult you need for your list or make a Cult enabling new optionsn, your choice! This comes at a price, as the powers presented here are weaker (even when you take 2). Also, the new Psychic Powers are reserved to the 6 Cults.
The best one are :
These 5 abilities are the best in the book IMO. Are these strong enough to change the average GC list? i don't know but I hope we'll see new variation!
I'll include the full list but truly, the one lefts are not that great :/
Units specific stratagems are the theme of the one included in the book. These new stratagems open new list options as you can count of a bit more on certain units. Strong but limited in scope as they only affect one specific unit or one character each time.
for example :
Evasive Driving is cool if the opponent doesn't have High PA weapons at the ready. Also, the timing of this stratagem is a nice trick, as you can force the opponent to use a lot more firepower than he originally planned.
Sanctus threat extender is good too if you want to get those pesky support characters, heavy units or even tag an objective.
note : With the number of Stratagems, it's going to take a lot of practice as a player to keep all those in mind and use them at the right moment. Rewarding decision making during the game is a good thing !!
For reference the full list
6 new Psychic powers, but restricted to named original cults.
Undermine : The spell is very strong as you can really "fuck up" the enemy plan. Still with a warp charge of 8 it's risky to count on it !
Synaptic Blast : Waaaaagh ! not very good but look fun ^^
Undying Vigor : 5+ feel no pain ? and not limited to infantry ?
Decay : -1 save against an enemy vehicle is good !
Last Gasp : meh :/
Mutagenic Deviation : Target limited to infantry, range is 12" only, and for melee attack. Still if you can make it work it's awesome !!
4 of these spells are good and can be built upon, it's a strong incentive to play with a Named Cult...
That's it for the Cult review. Custom Cult making seems a bit weak to me unless you go Yolo and build all the list around what you get. Still, I think it's a better option to take a Named Cult to get et extra Psychic Power.
The second review of the Book is done now. All that left is the Imperial Guard that I'll do tomorrow. in the meantime you can check the Tau review here
